Let's improve our listening skill

If English is your second language, so listening skill is one of  the most skill that you must have. Remember that listening is not the same as hearing. Hearing refers to the sounds that you hear, whereas listening requires more than that: it requires focus. Just like my lecturer says, one of the way to improve our listening ability is spend your time to listening at least one hour a day. Don't force yourself to spend a lot of time to listening in the begin but you weak in the end. Make it habit so you will enjoy it.

In my listening class, my lecturer always gives us an assignments that is listening a video and then make a summary about it. Here I'd like to share the result of my assignment.

Things to Do In Paris-Travel Guide to the City Of Lights
This video is about a speaker who tells us about things that we have to do in Paris. The speaker gave us some tips that can save our time and money. The first tip is learning some basic French expressions. While everyone speaks English at all the main attractions, starting a conversation with the simple “Bonjour” you can goes along way with the locals. No one is expecting you speak fluent French by any means but the effort goes along way when asking for direction.
Another tip relating to the language is, when you are eating at restaurants in the main tourist areas, do not be surprise if you got a menu all in English. If we do, chances are, you also have a menu with higher-priced items then back to the French menu. That is why; the man suggested us to eat in the restaurants in the beaten path, if we do not speak the language and not fall into this typical tourist trap.

The next tip is to choose a hotel that located next to the attractions we most want to see during the trip. One of the nice thing about Paris is there are a lot of its premier attractions are in cluster. So that, if we want to see De Louvre Museum (Musée du Louvre), Champs-Elysees or Arc de Triomphe, chose a hotel near these attractions, you may pay a little bit more for the hotel but you’ll save a lot of money on taxis. Especially when you traveling across Paris after night out, a taxi is the only options as the subway close at 1 AM.

Next tip for limited time in Paris, the man suggested to skipping Versailles Palace, while it is one of the most popular palace in all of French. It is also takes 30 minutes by train outside the Paris and will take up an entire day view trip. If you want to see that, the speaker recommended you to plan your day out ahead of time because Versailles is so massive. Pigalle, a main attraction for the most visited at night, but it is also an area where many visitors are taken advantage. Know what you are paying for and above all else. Do not enter any cabaret and burlesque shows in this area; many people have lost hundreds in mere minutes due to the aggressive girls and bartenders who sell you things unaware up the price you are paying.
If you are traveling to Paris in the peak season, break all your ticket to the main attraction you want to see ahead of time. Waste times during peak season can be very long and in the case, traveling to the top of Eiffel Tower can exceed four hours. If you are planning to travel with children, looking for some shopping advice. Find out more information about the top attractions the city has offered.
